We have moved to Denver Colorado. LoDo (lower downtown) to be exact. We are upstairs on Wazee Street right next to Cherry Creek. From our windows on the street we view the eastern range of the mountains. It is our hope that this location will enable us to highlight all the various works that Genevieve and I produce. Genevieve will exhibit her paintings and prints in the G.Wahl Gallery and I will have a large selection of frames and mirrors in the gallery. I have been producing archival pigment prints for photographers and galleries. I encourage you to contact me about your digital printing work.

FRAMING IS SET DESIGN. I believe one appreciates a good performance, in part, because one is taken with the atmosphere of the stage design. The visuals from a well thought-out design lend themselves to an enhanced experience. When I first see a piece to frame I let the elements in the piece dictate my reactions. When I feel a specific sensation I follow that direction in the frame design. It’s a delicate process, but one that I believe I have come to understand during the thirty eight years of making frames.

WHEN SOMEONE COMES INTO MY STUDIO for the first time, I pay particular attention to what they say about themselves and the piece they have brought in for framing. I might ask what they like about the piece and if they have any special ideas. I don’t use prefabricated samples; I make profiles and finishes individually. I do try to leave my mark on everything I make. As a craftsman, my imprint is important because it denotes my hand, and my hand is what makes me who I am.

The art of creating something from materials is a life-long path that each person who seeks craftsmanship tries to attain. It is an ongoing process that yields rewards along the way. As I begin the process of making frames I very often have little idea of my direction. I let the materials lead the way. I make wood profiles that echo the themes in a work of art. The tone and texture of wood and fabric each contribute to the visual sensation.

CRAFTSMANSHIP IS A WAY OF LIFE

“Randolph Laub is as good as it gets. He is creative and sympathetic to the essence of each photograph or painting he frames. Each one is unique.”

Richard Gere

“Two of my portraits (HRH Elizabeth II and Prince Philip) are in the Royal Collection at WIndsor Castle, both of which are framed by Randolph Laub. His frames are timeless, exquisitely finished and worthy of any portrait in the world.”

Bryan Adams
